Adopting from the APL
Before You Adopt!
If you’re considering adopting an animal, here are some important steps to take:
- Family Discussion: Talk about adopting a pet with everyone in your household to ensure everyone is on board.
- Financial Preparedness: Evaluate the financial commitment involved in properly caring for a pet.
- Landlord Approval: If you’re a renter, make sure to get permission from your landlord to bring a pet onto the property. Many pets are surrendered due to landlord restrictions.
- Local Regulations: Check your local ordinances and laws regarding pet ownership. In Kenya, relevant regulations include:
- The Animal Welfare Act, 2010: This law governs the treatment of animals, ensuring their welfare and prohibiting cruelty.
- The Dogs Act: Regulates the ownership of dogs, including licensing requirements and responsibilities of dog owners.
- County Animal Control Ordinances: Different counties may have specific regulations regarding pet ownership, including the number of pets allowed and noise control.
Visit Our Adoption Center!
Feel free to explore our adoption centre, spend time with our animals, and find your new best friend. Once you’re ready to adopt, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with a knowledgeable member of our staff who can provide information about the animal’s history, needs, and care requirements. You can ask your adoption counsellor any questions you may have regarding house training, training classes, behaviour issues, veterinary care, flea management, and more!
